Bulloch County Historical Society 40th Annual Meeting
The Bulloch County Historical Society will celebrate our fortieth annual meeting in style on Monday, June 23, 2014 beginning at 6:00 pm. The Hall by 40 East will cater and host the event at their banquet facility on East Vine St. There is plenty of off-street parking including the parking lot of Sea Island Bank, located next door to The Hall.
Dr. Del Presley will be the Keynote Speaker and his subject will be the 40-year history of the Society. An additional highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Georgia Historical Society’s Roger K. Warlick Local History Achievement Award. Bulloch County Historical Society won first place in the state in the category of Programs for “The Ole’ Scarecrow Statesboro Medicine Show.” This award recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of public history by Affiliate Chapters of the Georgia Historical Society.
A delicious menu awaits you as well as an exciting Silent Auction, designed to help the Society defray the cost of the event. Confirmed auction items so far include yummy goodies, seated luncheon, a trip for ten to the Waters farm with cookout, two Adirondack chairs, and a reconditioned wood and metal school desk guaranteed to bring back many fond memories.
“We hope that many of you will want to donate a wonderful or unusual item to help our auction cause. Perhaps the most wonderful/unusual item will appear in the June issue of Rambling Through Bulloch! Please call Virginia Anne at 912-682-9003 to arrange for your item to be included,” said Sylvia Harville, chairman of the Annual Meeting Committee.
President Joe McGlamery noted, “The cost of tickets this year is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.” McGlamery added, “There will not be tickets available at the door this year. To help us accurately plan for the dinner, we must know how many are coming. Tickets are available during regular business hours at the Statesboro Herald or at the May meeting of BCHS which will be Tuesday, May 27 as the fourth Monday is Memorial Day.
Beautiful fresh floral centerpieces will be raffled for $1.00 a ticket and everyone will receive two books as party favors. “In the business portion of the meeting, the Society will elect officers and directors for the coming program year of July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015,” McGlamery said, “as well as amend the Society’s by-laws.”
